Isle of Man Weather

As an Island, the Isle of Man benefits from a temperate climate, with warm summers and mild winters.
Weather in the Isle of Man

Due to the proximity of the Gulf Stream, the Island doesn't suffer from extreme swings in temperature, with a similar climate to that of Ireland or the Lake District in England.

The Isle of Man has its own Met Office  (UK's National Weather Service) based at Ronaldsway Airport, which can be contacted 24-hours a day on 0900 624 3200.

Average Seasonal Weather:

Summer - June is the driest month whilst May, June and July are the sunniest. July and August are the warmest months, with an average daily maximum temperature around 17.5°C (63°F). On the longest day of the year, the sun is out for over 17 hours! Summers are a great time for cookouts and beach days (which last well into the night!)

Autumn - The Isle of Man enjoys mild autumns with average temperatures staying between 8-13°C (55°F) with plenty of sunshine hours... until the clocks go back at the end of October!

Winter - Average temperatures stay around 7°C (45°F) during the day, keeping away morning frost and heavy snow. On average you can enjoy between 8-9 hours of daylight, making this season particularly great for stargazing. You can stare up into the heavens at one of the Island's 26 Dark Sky Sites or head to the north for a glimpse of the Northern Lights!

Spring - The Island warms up nicely in spring, with average temperatures of 11°C (52°F). The spring is the perfect time to get out and explore some hiking and bike trails around the Island.

For the time being I've not experienced bad weather. Probably as I've never seen the winter here! However, the summer and autumn have been amazing. I've been here in February just for couple of days and it was a true spring, which surprised me.

Time & Sunshine Hours

The Isle of Man follows British Daylight Saving time, with clocks going back one hour at the end of October and forward an hour at the end of March.

In the Isle of Man we get over 17 hours of daylight on the longest day in June (the summer solstice) which makes for plenty of warm evenings to enjoy the beautiful outdoors. During December (the winter solstice) the daylight hours shrink to under 8 hours, giving us all a good excuse to spend cosy nights indoors by the fire or at a pub with a nice warm cider!

Moaning about the weather!

Like our British counterparts, we Islanders love to moan about the weather. It's true that we get some storms and heavy rain at times (just like the rest of Britain and Ireland) but we actually enjoy a moderate and warm climate that allows us to grow palm trees, enjoy days on the beach and watch the waves roll in on a windy afternoon. The Island changes from season to season, giving 365 days of new landscapes and experiences.

Beautiful views and sceneries, much better weather than I imagined.
