Born in England and raised across several countries - including an adventurous chapter in Rio de Janeiro, Craig eventually moved to Glasgow, embracing his Scottish heritage. His path into Pharmacy began in Aberdeen, followed by hands-on training in Carlisle and formative roles at Northwick Park and Great Ormond Street Hospitals. But it was a year spent travelling - from Nairobi to Cape Town, across Australasia and Southeast Asia - that added valuable life experience to an already impressive CV.
“I travelled across Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia - it was one of the best decisions I ever made,” Craig says. Eventually, he returned to Aberdeen for nearly two decades before discovering the Isle of Man quite unexpectedly.
A Holiday That Turned into a Lifestyle Move
In 2017, Craig and his wife Sandra visited the Island with their two young boys and had what he describes as an “amazing family holiday” on a farm. Two years (and one more baby) later, they came back and found themselves thinking, Why not live here? In 2021, they made the leap and relocated to the Isle of Man!
“It just felt like the right place to raise three boys - safe, scenic, and full of character.”
Though Craig initially didn’t have a job lined up, opportunities came knocking and he was soon appointed Interim Chief Pharmacist at Manx Care, later stepping into his current role overseeing Medicines Information, Safety, Training, and Governance.
“There’s so much room to make an impact here. Manx Care is young and evolving - and being part of that journey has been incredibly fulfilling.”
Beyond the job – Embracing the Outdoors
Living by the coast, the Rore family can often be found kayaking, paddle boarding, or cheering on their children at the annual Manx Youth Games. Craig appreciates that everything’s close-by: “No commute is too long in the Isle of Man which is amazing, and offers a better work-life balance, freeing up valuable family time to spend with one another.”
In addition to a better work-life balance, Craig highlighted some of the quirks that make the Isle of Man so special and unique – from horse-drawn trams, water-powered playground carousels and the world-famous Tin Bath Championships, there is a lot to get involved with and explore.
The Isle of Man Verdict
“Sometimes it can feel like we’ve gone back in time, but in the loveliest way possible,” Craig says. “There’s a genuine sense of community, safety, history and culture here - and the locally sourced food is incredible, too.”
