TT legend Dean Harrison and his family have traded the hustle and bustle of Bradford for the breathtaking views of Laxey.
Settling into their new home highlighted the stark contrast to their previous way of life. The picturesque surroundings and community spirit opened a world of opportunities for the family of four, with family beach trips now a part of their daily routine. "The Isle of Man is the friendliest place; everyone was so accommodating and happy to help," Dean shared.
“I think the main benefit is the safety aspect, which speaks for itself” with two young children, the move has allowed them to explore new hobbies and allow their children to have more freedom, in Laxey’s close knit community, leading to a more active lifestyle, and many more opportunities for the whole family.
Another benefit of island life is the short commute times. Dean's partner, Vicky, secured a job at Laxey Dental ahead of the move. "I could moonwalk to work; it's super quick," she said, leaving more time for family, and to explore their new home.
Swapping one bike for another, Dean shared his passion for discovering the Island’s wonderful trails and coastlines on his enduro bike. "I can get on my enduro bike, head off over the hills on the green lanes, taking in the views and amazing scenery, and even stop at a café on the way for a brew."
A notable figure in the motorsport world, Dean is no stranger to the Isle of Man, the road racing capital. After spending considerable time on the Island, Dean and his family decided that Laxey was the perfect place for them to start their new chapter, making the move in April 2024.
Dean was quick to dispel rumours that the move was linked to the TT races, explaining that his profession allows him to race globally, regardless of where he's based. "I came here for the way of life, definitely," he asserted, emphasising the people, the lifestyle, and the relaxed surroundings as his reasons for moving.
