Rachel Rooney is from the UK and has travelled extensively. In late 2021 she decided to settle on the Isle of Man with her young family and works as a receptionist for one of the Island’s leading hotel groups; Sleepwell Hotels.

‘The best thing about working in the Isle of Man hospitality industry, is the diversity. You are always guaranteed to meet new and interesting people every day, whether that be a visitor or one of our many friendly locals enjoying a staycation.

My job has given me the chance to meet many new people and as a person who is very sociable, I very much enjoy the interaction with the guests. It has also given me the opportunity to expand my knowledge of the local Manx culture, in helping guests to find their way around the Island and explore the history of this beautiful place that I am now lucky enough to call my home.’

I started my career in a local restaurant, working as a waitress. I worked hard and was soon promoted to restaurant supervisor and latterly an operations manager assistant and have since progressed to a duty manager at one of the Island’s largest and most exclusive hotels. On the Isle of Man, the opportunities to grow in this industry really are limitless – I’ve been able to adapt, hone and learn new skills, allowing me to develop both professionally and personally.’
