A Class 2 driver is responsible for safely operating heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) over 7.5 tonnes, typically for deliveries, collections, or transport tasks. This role requires a valid Category C licence, a current Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence), and a tachograph card. Drivers must have a good understanding of vehicle checks, load securing, and compliance with driving regulations, including working hours and safety procedures. Communication skills, time management, and the ability to follow delivery instructions or route plans are essential. Experience with local and regional routes is often expected, and knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance is beneficial.

A surface dressing machine operator works as part of a highways or road maintenance team, operating specialized machinery used for applying surface treatments to roads. This job involves setting up and operating the dressing equipment, ensuring correct application of bitumen and aggregates, and maintaining consistent quality and safety standards. Operators must understand health and safety regulations, have a good awareness of their surroundings, and be physically fit for manual tasks such as loading materials or working in varying weather conditions. Experience in road maintenance or construction is typically required, and training on specific machinery or site protocols is often provided. A driving licence, and in many cases a Class 2 (Category C) licence, is also necessary due to the size of the vehicles and equipment used.
