The successful candidate will serve as a strategic legal and compliance leader, overseeing all legal, regulatory, and governance functions within the organization. They will provide expert legal counsel to senior management, manage internal and external legal teams, and ensure compliance with local and international laws across multiple jurisdictions. This role is central to shaping corporate legal strategy, supporting business expansion, and developing a robust compliance framework while fostering strong governance and a cohesive company culture. Additionally, the candidate will play a key role in forming the leadership team and operational direction of the organization.
Legal Responsibilities:
The candidate will provide strategic legal advice to management on all business-related matters and manage relationships with external counsel, including oversight of legal budgets. They will ensure full compliance with applicable laws and maintain legal opinions for current and future markets. Responsibilities also include managing litigation, contract negotiations, intellectual property, and other legal functions. They will lead the companies legal strategy, advise on risks associated with new markets or projects, and oversee the internal legal team, including privacy and data protection. As the business grows, they will expand the legal team and engage senior legal staff to support continued growth.
Compliance Responsibilities:
The role includes recruiting and managing a senior compliance officer to handle regulatory issues. The candidate will coordinate with external counsel and internal teams to build a strong governance structure, encompassing AML, anti-bribery, anti-corruption, whistleblowing, and diversity & inclusion policies. They will ensure timely training for staff on key compliance matters and support the development of a strong business culture. Ongoing collaboration with compliance and HR teams will ensure consistent delivery of training at onboarding and annually.
Corporate Governance:
The candidate will develop and implement governance strategies, ensuring regular and well-documented board meetings. They will provide necessary support to statutory directors and establish procedures for recording all key business decisions. Additionally, they will recruit and manage company secretarial and due diligence staff to uphold high standards of corporate governance.
Cultural Leadership:
A vital aspect of the role is helping to build a strong senior management team and cultivating a positive office culture in the Isle of Man. The candidate will partner closely with the C-suite, including future CEO and COO, to support leadership development and reinforce a cohesive, team-oriented work environment.
