Commercial Electrician

The Qualified Commercial Electrician will be responsible for delivering high?quality electrical installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair works across commercial, industrial, and public sector premises. The role requires adherence to Isle of Man regulations, BS 7671 wiring standards, and all relevant health & safety and statutory compliance requirements.

Carry out the installation of new electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, containment, emergency lighting, and specialist systems (e.g. fire alarms, security). Interpret and work from electrical drawings, specifications, and schedules. Ensure all new works comply with the current edition of the IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).

Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on electrical systems and equipment to minimise downtime. Diagnose and repair electrical faults promptly and effectively.
Test, inspect, and maintain emergency lighting, fire alarm systems, and fixed wiring installations.

Complete Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs) and other certification in line with Isle of Man and UK standards. Ensure all works are compliant with the Isle of Man Electricity (Wiring) Regulations and BS 7671 (18th Edition). Keep accurate job records, test results, and documentation for auditing purposes.

Work in accordance with the Electricity at Work, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH), and company safety procedures. Conduct dynamic risk assessments and ensure safe isolation of electrical systems before work. Use appropriate PPE and maintain a clean and safe working environment.

Liaise with clients, contractors, and colleagues to ensure smooth delivery of works. Provide technical advice to junior electricians and apprentices. Report progress, issues, and hazards to the Electrical Supervisor.

Experience: Recognised Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical systems and Equipment (Buildings, Structures and the Environment) or equivalent. City & Guilds 2382?22 (18th Edition Wiring Regulations). City & Guilds 2391?52 (Inspection and Testing) or equivalent. Valid Isle of Man Approved Electrician Registration with the Department of Infrastructure (or eligibility to obtain it). Experience in both commercial installation projects and planned/reactive maintenance.
