The Exam Invigilator supervises candidates during examinations at the ExamSpace centre, ensuring each session runs smoothly, securely and exactly in line with the relevant awarding body’s instructions, and that all candidates are treated fairly and professionally.

The role includes preparing the examination room before each session, including checking seating, equipment, materials and signage; verifying candidate identity and confirming attendance registers on arrival; performing security checks on candidates; briefing candidates clearly on examination rules and procedures; supervising candidates attentively throughout the examination (walk arounds and via CCTV) and remaining vigilant at all times; starting, timing and ending examinations precisely in accordance with awarding body instructions; operating examination delivery software on a Windows PC and dealing calmly with any issues that arise (with the support of other members of staff); responding to candidate queries and incidents in a calm, professional manner, escalating where necessary; recording and reporting any irregularities, suspected malpractice or incidents accurately; maintaining the security and confidentiality of examination materials and candidate data before, during and after each session; and restoring the examination room to readiness after each session.

Duties and responsibilities will evolve as ExamSpace grows and as further awarding bodies are added. The job description will be updated as the role develops.

Full training will be provided. Before invigilating for any awarding body, the role holder must complete that body’s own online invigilator training and assessment. A separate, straightforward assessment is required for each awarding body, these are not difficult, but they must be completed and kept up to date.

There are no minimum formal qualifications for this role. The following attributes are essential:
A reliable, punctual and trustworthy approach; confidence using a Windows PC; strong people skills, with a calm, professional and approachable manner; excellent attention to detail and the ability to follow detailed written instructions precisely; discretion and an understanding of the importance of confidentiality and examination security; and flexibility and good availability during weekday office hours.

Additionally, experience in exam invigilation (paper or computer based) would be advantageous.

This is a zero-hours contract; work is offered on an as-required basis and is not guaranteed.

Examinations are scheduled within office hours, Monday to Friday. Depending upon the examination the exam centre may need to be open 08.15 – 18.00.

At least approximately 30 examination days per year are currently anticipated for one awarding body, with additional days expected as further awarding bodies are contracted. A number of contracts are currently under discussion.

Based at ExamSpace, Winchester Court, Second Avenue, Onchan.
