Senior Operations Engineer

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Operations Engineer to join a growing technology team, taking the lead on delivering and supporting cloud-based infrastructure services. This is a fantastic opportunity for a highly skilled engineer with strong knowledge of virtualisation, storage, networking, and security technologies to take ownership of critical systems and play a key role in enhancing customer experience.

The Role:

As Senior Operations Engineer, you’ll be responsible for the administration, management, and 3rd-level support of a wide range of technologies, including VMware, storage, Windows/Linux servers, networking, and firewalls. You’ll lead on complex incident resolution, mentor junior engineers, and ensure infrastructure remains compliant and secure.

Key responsibilities include:
Managing and supporting VMware vCloud, vCenter, vSphere, and storage solutions.
Supporting Linux, Windows, SQL, VMware NSX, and physical networking.
Administering firewalls and other security devices.
Driving root cause analysis and resolving complex technical issues.
Providing consultancy and support for customer onboarding and cloud services.
Liaising with vendors, raising and managing support cases.
Drafting documentation, procedures, and system design.
Contributing to service improvements and mentoring the wider team.
Engaging with customers on infrastructure design, migrations, and DR strategies.

What we’re looking for:
Strong background in IT infrastructure (hardware, OS, storage, virtualisation, VDI, security).
Experience with backup and replication technologies.
Solid knowledge of Microsoft AD and DNS.
Associate-level certifications (CCNA, VCA, etc.) and/or professional-level (VCP, CCNP) desirable.
Excellent communication skills – written, phone, and face-to-face.
Proven experience in customer-facing environments with a professional, consultative approach.
Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar administration role, ideally in a service provider environment.
Knowledge of ITIL, ISO27001, and PCI-DSS is an advantage.
