Senior Payments Technician

Our client seeks a Senior Payments Technician to join their team. You'll play a pivotal role in the day-to-day operations of the team. You'll be responsible for overseeing the verification and authorisation of payments, maintaining strong system controls, and ensuring business-as-usual (BAU) activities are delivered to the highest standards. You'll also act as a key escalation point, mentor team members, and deputise for the Payments Manager when required. Key Responsibilities: Act as a subject matter expert (SME) in outward payments, banking platforms, journaling, and MI reporting. Support the Payments Manager in the daily running of the team, ensuring timely and accurate processing of all payments and receipts. Maintain and enhance system controls, identifying and implementing improvements where necessary. Analyse management information (MI) to identify trends, reduce risk, and improve internal processes and customer experience. Build and maintain strong relationships with banking partners and internal stakeholders. Provide training, mentoring, and support to team members, ensuring high standards of accuracy and performance. Represent the team in meetings and projects, contributing technical expertise and leadership. Confidently manage workloads and priorities in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment. Key Requirements: Minimum of 5 year's operational experience in payments and accounts payable. Expert user of banking platforms or similar. Expert user of Microsoft Office. Strong analytical skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Proven ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex information clearly. A proactive, solutions-focused mindset and a passion for continuous improvement. Experience mentoring others and leading by example.
