Commis Chef – Key Responsibilities:
Assist senior chefs with the preparation and cooking of Indian dishes.
Prepare ingredients including vegetables, meats, poultry, seafood, herbs and spices.
Follow recipes and cooking instructions to maintain consistency and quality standards.
Support the preparation of curries, tandoori dishes, starters, rice dishes and breads.
Assist with food portioning, plating and presentation during service.
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen workstations.
Follow food hygiene, HACCP and health & safety procedures at all times.
Store food correctly and assist with stock rotation using FIFO principles.
Monitor ingredient levels and report shortages to senior kitchen staff.
Assist with receiving and checking deliveries.
Operate kitchen equipment safely and report any faults or maintenance issues.
Support the kitchen team during busy service periods.
Assist with opening and closing kitchen procedures.
Help minimise food waste through careful preparation and storage practices.
Carry out cleaning duties including equipment, work surfaces and food preparation areas.
Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain an efficient kitchen environment.
Learn and develop knowledge of Indian cooking techniques, spices and traditional recipes.
Assist with special dietary requirements and allergen controls under supervision.
