Builders Merchant Yard Foreman/Supervisor

Supervise and coordinate the day-to-day running of the yard.
Manage and support yard staff, ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently.
Organise the loading and unloading of deliveries and collections.
Ensure customer orders are picked, checked, and prepared accurately.
Coordinate delivery schedules and assist with loading vehicles safely and correctly.
Maintain accurate stock levels and report shortages, damages, or discrepancies.
Ensure all materials are stored safely and the yard is kept clean, tidy, and organised.
Operate forklifts and other yard equipment where appropriately trained and licensed.
Carry out regular stock checks and assist with stock control.
Provide a high standard of customer service to both trade and general customers.
Liaise with drivers, suppliers, sales staff, and management to ensure smooth daily operations.
Ensure company health and safety procedures are followed at all times.
Complete relevant paperwork and delivery/collection documentation.
Monitor the condition of yard equipment and report any maintenance requirements.
Train and support new members of the yard team.
Lead by example and maintain a positive, professional working environment.
Assist with general yard duties when required.
Experience & Skills
Previous experience working in a builders merchant, timber yard, construction materials yard, or similar environment Preferred
Proven experience in a supervisory, foreman, or team leader position.
Good knowledge of building materials and trade products.
Experience with stock control, goods in/out, and customer collections.
Forklift experience and a valid licence would be an advantage.
Good organisational and communication skills.
Ability to work under pressure in a busy environment.
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to health and safety.
Ability to manage and motivate a small team.
Full driving licence would be advantageous.
Personal Qualities
The ideal candidate will be reliable, hardworking, organised, and hands-on, with a strong understanding of the builders merchant environment. They should be confident dealing with customers and colleagues, able to take responsibility for the smooth running of the yard, and willing to get involved with the day-to-day work when required.
Working Hours
Full-time position, with working hours and occasional overtime to be agreed depending on business requirements.
