Digger Driver

Key Responsibilities:
Operate a range of excavators (e.g., 1.5T to 20T) for trenching, site preparation, and drainage installation.
Carry out daily machine checks and maintenance to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Follow site plans and specifications to achieve accurate excavation and grading.
Work closely with site supervisors and groundworkers to meet project deadlines.
Adhere to health and safety protocols, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 (as applied to the Isle of Man).
Implement environmental protection measures, such as preventing soil runoff into watercourses, in line with the Water Pollution Act 1993.
Assist with general groundwork tasks as needed, including setting up site fences and managing waste materials.
Report any equipment issues or site hazards to the site supervisor immediately.
What We’re Looking For:
Essential Requirements:
Valid CPCS (Construction Plant Competence Scheme) or NPORS (National Plant Operators Registration Scheme) card for excavators.
Minimum 3 years experience operating diggers in groundwork or drainage projects.
Knowledge of safe excavation practices and site safety regulations.
Ability to read and interpret site plans and drawings.
Full driving licence.
Strong awareness of environmental responsibilities, including preventing pollution and managing waste (per Collection and Disposal of Waste Regulations 2000).
Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
Physically fit and able to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Desirable Skills:
Experience with GPS machine control systems.
Additional plant tickets (e.g., dumper, roller).
First Aid at Work certification.
Training in spill response or environmental protection measures.
Familiarity with sustainable drainage systems (SuDS).
