Career Advisor Support Sessions for Isle of Man Students Considering Next Steps

The Isle of Man Government’s Department of Education, Sport and Culture are running career advisor support sessions for Isle of Man students this summer – offering advice on further education and future employment options.

Career Advice Drop-In Sessions

Career advisors from the Isle of Man Government’s Department of Education, Sport and Culture (DESC) have organised opportunities for education leavers to discuss next steps during the summer holidays.

Advisors will be running several drop-in sessions throughout August and September 2022 at the following venues:

  • Ramsey Youth Centre
  • Peel Youth Centre
  • Port Erin Rushen Youth Centre
  • The Job Centre at Markwell House in Douglas
  • University College Isle of Man (UCM) main campus in Douglas

Deciding Next Steps

These drop-in sessions are aimed at a spectrum of Isle of Man students ranging from GCSE and A Level to Further and Higher Education leavers and are designed to help students decide what their next steps are.

The drop in sessions form part of the ‘Signposts’ project run by DESC, with career advisors providing information on what options are available to students – whether this is continued learning or employment, and are in addition to a number of Career Advisory Programmes run in Isle of Man schools throughout the school year.

Isle of Man Government Initiatives Developed To Support Education Leavers

This summer's careers provision complements several Isle of Man Government initiatives developed to support Isle of Man education leavers.  This includes the Department for Enterprise’s Graduate Employability Training Programme, designed to enhance recent graduate’s employability as they enter the job market. The Programme comprises a two-week intensive course to provide graduates with the skills required to help them get ahead in the workplace.

The Isle of Man – Home To A Thriving Graduate Ecosystem

With on average 200 graduate roles available each month in the Isle of Man across a wide range of sectors including financial and professional services, tech, hospitality, education, healthcare and many more, the Island offers infinite possibilities for education leavers looking to kick-start a career in their area of choice - with many Island employers supporting continued learning and development through professional qualifications and training.

The Graduate Role Incentive is another Isle of Man Government backed-scheme designed to encourage expansion of the Island’s graduate workforce. The incentive provides financial assistance to businesses looking to create new graduate roles, with support including funding of up to £6,000 of the graduate’s first-year salary and an employer National Insurance rebate for each graduate hired through supported roles. The scheme has seen dozens of new graduate roles created across the Island’s economy in the last 12 months.

Further information about the ‘Summer Signposts’ career advice drop-in sessions is available on the Signposts website. For further information on graduate and school leaver opportunities in the Isle of Man, visit the Department for Enterprise’s website or the Locate Isle of Man website.
