Bringing your Pet to the Isle of Man

The Isle of Man is very pet friendly, with plenty of dog walking spots and outdoor space to roam around.
Pets love to explore the Isle of Man's lush countryside!

The Isle of Man is a special place to bring your pets. It is a natural oasis with few busy roads and miles of uninhabited areas to discover. The Island is void of many natural predators, like foxes, which makes taking care of smaller animals that much easier.

Animal Life on the Isle of Man

Dogs

The Isle of Man is great for dog lovers, with hidden tracks in the middle of nowhere and well lit beaches bustling with life, you can get the best of both worlds. Dogs are allowed in a lot of pubs on the Island and more and more cafes and restaurants are allowing them too.

Cats

The Isle of Man doesn't have many busy roads, making it a great place to have cats. The Island even has its own breed of cat - the 'Manx Cat' like the one shown below – a long legged, wiry breed without a tail!

Horses

The Isle of Man has acres and acres of green lanes and open spaces that are perfect for horse riding. There are plenty of private stables to choose from and many competitions and shows throughout the year.

From the UK

Most dogs and cats may travel between the Isle of Man and the United Kingdom without export certificates.

However, certain breeds of dog (for example, Pit Bull Terrier types, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino and Fila Braziliero) are prohibited from importation.

While you will need a passport to fly to the Isle of Man with your pet, dogs and cats can travel freely from the UK via the Isle of Man ferry service.

From outside the UK

Regulations and restrictions apply to the import of these animals through the UK and onward to the Isle of Man. More information can be found on the UK Government website.

Vets & Animal Care

The Isle of Man has plenty of choice for veterinary care. There are vets in all the major towns, including emergency 24-hour services.

In addition, the Island has a large farm community, so there are a number of farm vets for larger animals.
